Collection: Invisible Women

Seven original oil paintings made in response to Invisible Women, Caroline Criado Perez's book on the gender data gap: the world designed around a male default, in which women's bodies, pain and work go unmeasured and therefore unseen.

The book argues with numbers. These paintings answer with faces. Six works by Nahira follow a woman through the experiences that rarely make it into the data: the first breath of a birth, the unpaid labour of caring for a child, pain that is dismissed because it does not match the textbook, the exhaustion of holding it all together in a crowd. Her eyes are closed in every one, and fainter figures stand behind her, the women whose stories were never recorded. The seventh painting, Unbothered by Phaedra, breaks the pattern: a woman turns from a queue of men and looks straight back at you.

Each work is a signed, one-of-a-kind original with a certificate of authenticity, shown at our gallery on Davie Street in Vancouver, with free shipping to Canada, the USA and the UAE. We welcome collaborations with women's organisations, health and research bodies, and events that want to put this series in front of the people it was painted for.
