Gold usually needs less size than flat colour because the reflective surface draws attention on its own. A 40 to 60 cm (16 to 24 in) work can hold a wall that would need a much larger piece in a matte palette. Save large gold works for big rooms with dark walls.

Dust a metallic painting with a dry, soft brush or cloth, never a damp one, and never use cleaning sprays, which can dull or lift metallic surfaces. Keep gold leaf works out of direct sunlight and away from humidity swings, so not in bathrooms. Handled this way, they last for decades.
