About this artwork

Planets turn inside a garden of gold. In Celestial Garden, striped and marbled spheres that recall Jupiter, Saturn, the Earth and a deep blue Neptune are caught in sweeping bands of ornament, each band filled with miniature flowers, arabesques and scrolling vines. At the centre a great gold spiral gathers everything in, and at the edges the pattern dissolves into fine curls and dots on warm, cream-gold paper.

Darya works in the tradition of Persian negargari, the art of the miniature and the illuminated manuscript, and carries it into a contemporary, abstract composition. Every line here was drawn and painted by hand. The work took approximately six months to complete, and it shows: even the narrowest passages hold complete little compositions of their own, and the gold detailing shifts with the light as you move past it.

The painting can be read as a meeting of two scales, the smallest flower and the widest orbit, held together by one continuous line. At 30 by 40 centimetres it is an intimate piece, made to be hung where people can stand close: a study, a reading corner, a hallway passed every day. The longer you look, the more it gives back.

Questions about this painting

How big is Celestial Garden, and what size wall does it suit?
Celestial Garden by Darya measures 15.7 by 11.8 inches (40 by 30 cm), so it is landscape, wider than it is tall. VanArtHub suggests hanging it over a wall space or piece of furniture at least 24 inches wide, which keeps the painting at roughly two thirds of the width below it. Measure your wall before you order, and remember the 14-day trial covers you if the scale is not right in the room.
Is Celestial Garden an original painting or a print?
Celestial Garden is a one-of-a-kind original painted by Darya, oil and gold on paper. VanArtHub sells originals only and does not sell prints or reproductions of this work, so once it is bought there is no second copy. A signed Certificate of Authenticity ships with the painting.
What colours are in Celestial Garden?
The dominant colour in Celestial Garden by Darya is gold. The style is persian negargari, contemporary persian art, abstract. If you are matching a room, work from the wall colour and the largest piece of furniture rather than from small accessories, and use the 14-day trial to see the painting in your own light before you commit.
