How big are your portrait canvases?

Portrait sizes here run from about 30 by 40 cm up to about 110 by 145 cm. The small end suits a narrow wall, a stairwell or a shelf above a desk. The large end is a full presence piece and needs a wall you can stand back from, with about two metres of clear floor, or the face reads as crowded.

Can I live with a portrait for two weeks before I decide?

Yes, every portrait ships with a 14-day home trial, so you can hang it, see it in morning and evening light, and return it for a full refund if it does not settle. We pay the return shipping. A face changes a room more than a landscape does, so this is the category where we think the trial matters most.

What do you talk people out of when they want a portrait?

Expect weeks, not days. The artist needs reference photos, conversation about the sitter, painting time, and drying time; oil in particular cannot be rushed because it dries slowly. We think the wait is part of the value, but if you have a fixed date soon, choose a finished portrait instead.

How do I verify a portrait is an original?

Every portrait we sell is hand-painted, signed by the artist, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from our gallery. We make no prints or reproductions of these works. In person, raking light reveals brush texture no printer can produce, and the signature sits in the paint, not on it.

When is commissioning the wrong choice?

Commissioning is wrong when you cannot describe what you want, when your timeline is short, or when no available artist's natural style matches your vision.
