About the Artist

Amir Fazelian is an Iranian-Canadian artist whose work reimagines Persian mythology through a contemporary lens. His 'Div' (Monster) series transforms ancient mythological creatures into metaphors for modern anxieties — data, surveillance, technology, and the loss of self in digital systems. Working across watercolour, acrylic, and digital media, Amir bridges the ancient and the algorithmic.

Artist Statement

The Div is not a monster. The Div is a mirror. In Persian mythology, the Div represents what we refuse to see in ourselves — chaos, desire, the untamed. I bring the Div into the present: trapped in data, commanded by systems, thinking through machines. The question is not whether monsters exist. The question is what we have become.
