About this artwork

Threads of Becoming is a face that has come apart and is being held together again: closed eyes, a nose and parted lips float as separate fragments between two long, reaching hands, while small butterflies drift through the space and threads fall like drips of paint.

Artwork Statement

This work explores the relationship between identity, fragility, and the rebuilding of the self. A face divided into separate parts is an image of an identity that is not unified or fixed, but shaped by memory, emotion, and experience.

The hands on either side of the work hang between touching, protecting, and rebuilding, as if trying to hold the scattered pieces of existence together. The butterflies among them are symbols of transformation, release, and the passage from one state to another.

Choosing mesh as the ground is an essential part of the concept. Its transparency and vulnerability blur the boundary between presence and absence. In contrast, stitching with thread is a physical, deliberate act: each stitch can be a sign of connection, repair, and the effort to hold on to something that is coming apart.

The free combination of acrylic paint and thread dissolves the line between painting and structure, turning the work into a space between image and object, where beauty takes shape not in being complete, but in the process of breaking, changing, and coming back together.
