Why a real original can cost less than a print

A framed reproduction from a big-box store can run $300 without the artist earning a cent from that sale beyond a licence. An original at the same price exists because the economics are different, not because the art is worse. Smaller formats take fewer studio hours. Works on paper cost less to make than large stretched canvas. And artists early in their market price to build a collector base, the same way established names once did.

In Vancouver's galleries, most published entry prices start higher: of the 21 art shops in Vancouver we checked, only 7 publish prices at all, and the established South Granville spaces sit mostly in the four and five figures. Online is where the under-$700 originals actually live.

What each budget really buys

Every piece on this site, whatever the price, ships free and fully insured across Canada and the USA, arrives with a signed Certificate of Authenticity, and carries the 14-day trial: if it does not work on your wall, send it back for a full refund and we pay the return shipping. The Lifetime Trade-Back also applies, so a $250 first purchase can become credit toward a larger work years from now.

Common questions

Can I really buy an original painting in Vancouver for under $700?

Yes. At our last count, 13 of VanArtHub's 155 originals were under $700 CAD, starting at $531. Artist-run spaces like Federation Gallery on Granville Island also list works in this range by their own site. What you rarely find under $700 is a piece in an established South Granville gallery.

Are cheap originals lower quality?

Lower price usually means smaller format, work on paper, or an artist earlier in their market, not weaker work. Every piece we sell is a signed one-of-a-kind original with a Certificate of Authenticity, whatever it costs.

Is the price the full cost?

Yes. Shipping across Canada and the USA is free and fully insured on every piece, so the listed price is the whole cost. Prices are in US dollars.

What if I buy something and regret it?

You have a 14-day trial from delivery. Return the piece for a full refund and we pay the return shipping. Later on, the Lifetime Trade-Back lets you exchange it for store credit toward another work.
