Commission a Vancouver artist

Have a subject, a size, or a room in mind? Tell us the idea and we match you with one of our artists, who agrees the size, timing, and price with you before a brush moves. The result is an original that exists for you alone.

Signed original. Certificate of Authenticity. Free insured shipping in Canada and the USA.

How a commission works

The same three steps we publish on our homepage, spelled out.

1

Share your idea

Send a photo, a theme, or the colours of your space. A phone snap of the wall and rough measurements are enough to start. There is no fee to ask.

2

We match you with an artist

We propose the artist on our roster whose work fits your idea. The artist agrees the size, timing, and price with you first, in writing, before starting.

3

Receive your original

The finished painting arrives hand-signed with a Certificate of Authenticity, shipped free and fully insured anywhere in Canada or the USA.

Why commission through a Vancouver gallery

  • Several of our artists live and work in Vancouver, including Melina Ghaemi, Marjan Mousavi, Roshan, Phaedra, and Maria, so local viewings can sometimes be arranged.
  • Price, size, and timing are agreed before work starts. No surprises at the end.
  • You deal with one gallery for matching, updates, payment, and shipping, not a stranger's inbox.
  • The finished work is signed and documented with a Certificate of Authenticity.
  • Watch pieces take shape in our art being made collection to see how our artists actually work.

Commissioning for a specific purpose? We keep dedicated guides for custom art gifts, commissioning a Canadian painting, and vegan-material commissions.

Not sure a commission is right?

A commission suits a specific vision: a size no ready work matches, a subject that matters to you, or colours that must sit with a room. If you simply want an original you love on the wall sooner, browsing beats commissioning: every one of our available originals ships this week, and the room art match tool shows any piece on a photo of your own wall before you decide. Our guide to buying original art in Vancouver covers both routes.

Common questions

How much does it cost to commission a painting in Vancouver?

It depends on the artist, the size, and the medium, which is why our process fixes the price before any work starts: the artist quotes for your specific idea and you approve it in writing first. For scale, our ready-made originals run from $531 to $5,980 with a median around $1,265.

How long does a commission take?

Timing is agreed with the artist up front, alongside the size and price, because it varies with the work's scale and the artist's queue. You will know the timeline before you commit.

Can I see the work in progress?

Ask for progress photos when you agree the commission; our artists regularly document their process, and we publish works in progress in the art being made collection.

What if I do not like the finished painting?

The brief, size, and price agreed up front exist to prevent that. Raise anything that feels off at the progress stage rather than at the end, and it can usually be resolved on the canvas.

Do I have to be in Vancouver?

No. The whole process works by email and phone, and the finished piece ships free and fully insured anywhere in Canada or the USA.
