The story behind this piece

In 'The Wound Adorned,' we encounter an unsettling image of a rabbit, its eye bearing a wound that symbolizes the silent cruelty lurking behind manufactured beauty. This poignant piece invites the viewer to confront the stark reality of enhancement that often masks harm. The atmosphere is tense, drawing the viewer into the rabbit's world where vulnerability is met with disregard.

The narrative runs deeper as the artist Phaedra challenges the viewer to understand beauty as a double-edged sword. The seemingly harmless cosmetics that enhance human features have a backstory soaked in forced trials upon innocent beings. Through this work, pigments worn on the skin transform into metaphors for a scarred conscience, questioning the ethics of beauty attained through such means. The striking light that pierces the darkness serves not only as an aesthetic element but also as a moral lens, refusing to let the truth fade away.

This provocative piece encourages reflection on the cost of beauty and resonates especially with collectors and introspective viewers who ponder the moral implications of aesthetic choices. About this artwork

Artwork Statement

In this portrait, the face isn't hidden, it's just shown for what it really is. If we open our eyes for a moment, we see that the 'beauty' we put on is built on harm: makeup tested on the eyes of innocent animals.

What sits on our skin isn't color. It's a worn-down conscience. Here, beauty has been bought at the price of blindness, the blindness of the animals it was tested on.

The harsh light in the scene is like our conscience, a truth that insists on being seen. We close our eyes to make it disappear, as if ignoring it could change the truth. But it doesn't.

Interior Design Use

This piece would serve as a striking focal point in a sophisticated living room or study. Its dark palette and intriguing subject matter create a mysterious and contemplative atmosphere, best suited for spaces with a dramatic or eclectic aesthetic.
